Chief Executive Officer of LIKANA Safaris, and Lecturer at MUBS

Tourism businesses must strengthen their ability to adapt to crises, manage finances and respond to changing market conditions to remain competitive, according to Mr. Bonny Kagaba, Chief Executive Officer of LIKANA Safaris and Lecturer at MUBS.

Speaking about “Building Resilient Tourism Businesses in Times of Crisis and Uncertainty” during the Becoming the Better Entrepreneur online series on August 13, 2026, Kagaba said resilience was about continuing to operate and adapt despite disruptions.

He said tourism is highly dependent on traveller confidence, making clear and timely communication essential during periods of uncertainty. Reflecting on the COVID-19 pandemic and the 2022 Ebola outbreak,

Kagaba said the crises demonstrated the need for businesses to maintain financial discipline, adapt operations quickly and provide accurate information to travellers. He also urged tourism operators to diversify their source markets, warning that global conflicts, flight disruptions, travel advisories and visa changes can quickly affect tourism demand. Kagaba identified financial discipline, adaptability, effective communication and market diversification as key strategies for helping tourism businesses withstand crises and position themselves for recovery and growth.
